Orange County Early Head Start Program
Since August, 1998, the Orange County Early Head Start Program under the Chapel Hill Training and Outreach Project, Inc. has been a partner of CSPU6.
Serving children ages birth to three year olds, the purpose of the Early Head Start Program is to 1) enhance physical, social, emotional and cognitive
development in young children; 2) encourage and support parents in becoming more responsive caregivers; 3) train teachers of infant and toddlers to be more
developmentally appropriate in their planning of curricula and overall care giving styles; and 4) assist parents in meeting their own goals, including that
of economic independence.

More at Four Pre-Kindergarten Program
Community School for People under Six partners with the Orange County Partnership for Young Children to implement the More at Four Pre-Kindergarten Program in Orange County along with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Pre-K/Head Start, Chapel Hill Training Outreach Project, Inc. (for the Orange County Schools), Spanish for Fun Academy, and Alphabet Soup, Inc. (for Carrboro and Orange-Chatham Early Schools). CSPU6 is the first child care center in Orange County to participate in the More at Four Program. The More at Four Program is the Governor's North Carolina Initiative to promote school readiness and better prepare children for kindergarten.
Our first program year began January 16, 2002 through June 7, 2002. The new school year begins annually in August through June of each year for 4 year olds enrolling in kindergarten. The Summer Program begins July 1 - mid August of each year. Eligible families interested should call us at 919.929.1543 to apply.
The highest priority is given to those at-risk children who have never had the opportunity to participate in a formal early education program such as child care, public or private pre- school, Head Start, Early Start, early intervention programs, or other such programs. Second priority is given to children who are eligible for financial assistance for services but are not receiving any assistance; and third priority is given to children who are currently served in settings that do not meet the high quality More at Four program standards.
